Web desk: The district administration has announced three-day school holidays in all government and private institutions in connection with the 556th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

According to a spokesperson, all government and private schools will remain closed from November 4 to 6, while academic activities at Baba Guru Nanak University will be suspended from November 3 to 6.

The city’s colleges will also remain closed during the celebrations to ensure smooth arrangements and security.

CEO Education Shazia Bano and the university administration have issued formal notifications regarding the closure of educational institutions.

Thousands of Sikh pilgrims from around the world, including India, are expected to arrive in Nankana Sahib to participate in the celebrations.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi has issued visas to 2,100 Sikh pilgrims from India for the occasion.

During their visit, pilgrims will pay homage at Gurdwara Janm Asthan in Nankana Sahib, Gurdwara Panja Sahib in Hassan Abdal, and Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur in Narowal.

Historical Significance of Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Anniversary

Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism, was born in 1469 in Nankana Sahib, in present-day Punjab, Pakistan.

His teachings focused on equality, peace, compassion, and service to humanity. Each year, devotees from around the world visit Gurdwara Janam Asthan, which is his birthplace, to celebrate his birth anniversary with deep devotion.

The celebrations include religious gatherings, community meals (langar), and peace processions that reflect Guru Nanak’s message of unity and brotherhood.

The 556th birth anniversary, being observed in November 2025. It carries special significance as the Punjab government and local authorities have made special arrangements to welcome and facilitate all visitors.
