Bilawal seeks end to ongoing protests in Azad Kashmir

Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has urged protesters in Azad Kashmir to peacefully end their demonstrations.

In a statement on Sunday, Bilawal said the upcoming signing of the Islamabad Agreement marks an important milestone. He said the ongoing protests in Azad Jammu and Kashmir are damaging both the Kashmiri cause and Pakistan’s image at a time when the world is closely watching the country.

He claimed that hostile forces, including what he described as an India-Israel nexus, could take advantage of the unrest to serve their own interests.

Bilawal called on demonstrators to return home peacefully and asked those involved in unlawful activities to surrender to local authorities and face legal proceedings.

He stressed that political disagreements should be settled through democratic and constitutional channels. According to him, parliament and the political system provide the proper platform for addressing public concerns rather than street protests.

The PPP chairman said his party has already asked the Election Commission to withdraw the election schedule announced ahead of time. He added that the party remains committed to finding a political solution and plans to push for a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to address unresolved issues and help achieve a lasting settlement.

Bilawal said the people of Kashmir should not have to face repeated periods of protests, conflict and uncertainty.

He also said the Azad Kashmir government could review actions taken against protest groups if all stakeholders, including the federal government, agree. While emphasising the need to uphold the law and hold those responsible for illegal acts accountable, he said authorities must also ensure that innocent people do not suffer for actions they did not commit.
