A new facility has been launched by the city administration at government hospitals to ease the burden of the citizens of Lahore who are in need of medical certificates for driving licences, free of cost.

To facilitate and simplify the licensing process, special medical fitness certificate centres have been set up at various public hospitals.

The citizens are now able to get their medical fitness certificates free of cost from designated hospitals of the government in Lahore under the supervision of the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore.

The first phase of the project has seen the opening of fitness license certificate offices at 13 public hospitals in Lahore.

Special medical counters have been set up at District Headquarters (DHQ) Mian Mir Hospital, DHQ Mozang, General Hospital Ghaziabad, and Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital Sabzazar.

It has also expanded to the government hospitals in Samanabad, Qila Gujjar Singh, Shahdara, Bilal Ganj, Sodiwal, Kahna, Raiwind and Swami Nagar.

According to the CTO Lahore, medical fitness certificates have become a must for the applicants who are applying for a commercial driving license as well as for people over 50 years old.

The new initiative aims to reduce difficulties faced by citizens and ensure a smoother licensing process.

Police are also trying to implement a system of electronic verification to stop the granting of fake medical certificates.

The online medical verification is believed to bring clarity, accountability and trust in the driving licence system.

The transfer is being interpreted as a major move to help the citizens in a country where many people obtain driving licenses illegally.

Only healthy people are permitted to have a driving licence, especially in commercial vehicles, where safety is always a concern.
