The Punjab government has announced the planned route for the Lahore electric tram project, according to reports on Wednesday. Officials said that the contract process has been completed and the procurement work is now in progress.

Lahore Electric Tram Project

Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar shared these details while speaking to the media today. He said that the electric tram is expected to start running in Lahore during the next fiscal year.

He further said that the government had earlier considered a full metro style system for the project.

However, that plan has now been postponed. The focus is now on a simpler electric tram system to improve city transport and reduce costs.

According to him, the tram will start from the Central Business District. It will pass through Jail Road and Mall Road. The final stop will be Istanbul Chowk.

The minister said the project will help improve travel in the city. He said it will also reduce traffic on busy roads. He added that it will provide a modern and clean transport option for citizens.

Further, he added that no trees will be cut for the project. He said the government has planned the route carefully to protect the environment.

Officials believe the electric tram will help reduce pollution and make travel easier in Lahore. They say it is part of wider plans to improve transport in Punjab.

The government says it will continue the project in steps and will make sure all rules and planning guidelines are followed.
