Ivory Coast player, Elye Wahi has found himself caught up in an investigation over suspected corruption.
The development comes after strange betting patterns were discovered around a yellow card the player received in a Ligue 1 match last month.
The French Professional Football League (LFP) and relevant French authorities gave the statement.
However, Wahi was not confirmed as a suspect.
According to Reuters, a 23-year-old Ligue 1 player was taken into custody as part of an organised sports corruption investigation on May 29.
The investigation was also covering theft, money laundering and organised fraud.
The LFP also said that it had alerted authorities following a detection of a high volume of wagers placed internationally on the player when he received a yellow card on May 17.
The French football authority added that it had not gone through with disciplinary proceedings.
There has been no information provided on this situation from the Ivory Coast team or Wahi’s agent.
