Pakistan to host US-Iran talks tomorrow

Pakistan will be hosting key negotiations between the United States and Iran scheduled to take place in Switzerland on Friday (tomorrow), according to the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In a statement, the Swiss government confirmed that initial talks aimed at implementing a recently signed agreement between Washington and Tehran will be held at the Buergenstock mountain resort.

The ministry said the United States and Iran, along with mediators Pakistan, Qatar and other involved countries, are expected to attend the meeting for preliminary negotiations on the implementation of the agreement.

The Swiss authorities did not provide further details regarding the schedule or agenda of the talks.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said plans for the negotiating teams to travel to Switzerland had been finalised. He added that both sides had already signed a memorandum of understanding and would work on finalising its text during the upcoming discussions.

Baghaei said ending conflicts across all fronts, including Lebanon, remained an important objective, noting that Lebanon was specifically mentioned several times in the agreement.

Separately, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said Tehran was entering negotiations with the United States from a position of strength.

He claimed Iran’s battlefield successes had laid the foundation for the current talks and stressed that while diplomacy was under way, Iran would remain cautious in its dealings with Washington.

The United States and Iran say a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the war and reopening the Strait of Hormuz has entered into force.

US President Donald Trump signed the agreement in Versailles after attending the G7 summit in France, while Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed the document in Tehran.
