The Torkham border trade crossing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been temporarily reopened, after which the process of repatriating Pakistani transit trucks stranded in Afghanistan has begun.
According to customs officials, Pakistani cargo vehicles in Afghanistan are returning home, and empty transit trucks are entering Pakistan through Torkham in phases.
Officials said that due to Pak-Afghan tensions, the trade crossings had been closed since October 12, 2025, leaving hundreds of cargo vehicles stranded in Afghanistan for about eight months.
Customs officials added that the process of returning the stranded trucks in phases will continue in the coming days.
The Pak-Afghan border, which had closed due to incidents of infiltration from Afghanistan, is one of the busiest border routes in the world, with thousands of people crossing it daily and a high volume of trade taking place.
