The President of the Karachi Transport Ittehad (KTI) has announced that the decision to go on strike will remain in effect for an indefinite period, stating that a final course of action will be decided in a joint meeting of transport stakeholders.
Speaking to a private TV channel, he said the strike was called due to disappointment from all sides, adding that all relevant provincial government authorities have already been approached regarding their demands.
He noted that the reduction of e-challan fines remains the association’s primary demand, urging the authorities to take immediate notice of the issue.
Further announcements regarding the continuation or withdrawal of the strike are expected after the upcoming joint meeting. He added that if the demands are not implemented, the strike will continue tomorrow as well.
He further stated that despite the introduction of e-challans, manual challans are still being issued. The Transport Ittehad also said that the promised subsidy, agreed upon on the condition of not increasing fares after the fuel price hike, has not yet been received.
He noted that fines of up to one hundred thousand rupees are often imposed on transport vehicles parked at depots. The President of the Transport Alliance also said that at the time of insurance payment, a third party is required to pay Rs. 12,000. He questioned under which category this payment falls and where this money is being used.
