Residents of the twin cities are facing yet another financial burden as chicken prices continue to surge across Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and several parts of Punjab.
Despite the absence of any new taxes on poultry in the recently announced budget, market prices have risen sharply, raising concerns among consumers already struggling with rising living costs.
According to market sources, the wholesale price of chicken has risen to Rs 12,400 per maund, compared to Rs 11,200 per maund before the budget. This sharp increase over just a few days has become a cause for concern among consumers.
Sources stated that poultry farm owners had been attempting to raise prices for several days, and the effects of those efforts are now clearly visible in the market. Following the increase in wholesale rates, chicken prices in the retail market have also risen significantly.
Chicken that was selling for Rs 265 per kilogram a few days ago is now being sold at Rs 340 per kilogram. Citizens say that essential commodities are already expensive, and this latest increase in chicken prices has placed an even greater burden on household budgets.
According to experts, further price hikes may occur in the coming days if a balance between supply and demand is not maintained. Citizens have urged the relevant authorities to take immediate notice of the rising chicken prices and take action against those responsible for creating artificial inflation.
