The Sindh Education Department has made facial recognition registration mandatory for both teaching and non-teaching staff across the province to strengthen attendance monitoring.
According to the department, all teaching and non-teaching employees will be required to complete facial recognition registration during June and July. Starting from August, daily clock-in and clock-out attendance through the new system will become compulsory for all employees.
The Education Department has warned that salaries of employees who fail to complete the registration process within the stipulated timeframe will be withheld. Officials said the new attendance system will be directly linked to the Sindh Accountant General (AG) Treasury to ensure transparency and compliance.
Under the new policy, more than two leaves in a month will be counted as additional absences. The department also stated that automatic salary deductions will be made in cases of late arrival or unauthorised absence.
The Sindh Education Department has advised all employees to complete their registration on time and ensure regular attendance to avoid salary deductions and other disciplinary actions.
Earlier, the Sindh Education Department had prepared a new policy to fix staff imbalances in government schools. The plan includes a proposed golden handshake scheme for surplus teachers and changes in recruitment rules to improve administration, the private media channel reported on Tuesday.
Under the new policy, the department will identify teachers who are in excess in schools where staff numbers are higher than student enrolment. These teachers may be offered voluntary early retirement under a golden handshake programme.
Sindh Education Minister Sardar Shah said the government will get a clear picture of the total number of teachers and students after completing a facial recognition-based verification process. He added that once the department identifies surplus staff, the affected teachers will be given the option to accept the golden handshake package and retire voluntarily.
The minister said the aim of the policy is to bring balance between staff strength and student enrolment and to make better use of available resources in the education system.
