Operations of Metro Bus services have been partially suspended in Islamabad and Rawalpindi in the wake of taking enhanced security measures during the official visit of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Metro Bus will continue to run on select routes throughout the day with several routes scheduled to be closed all day to aid VVIP movement and security measures in the federal capital, according to the new advisory released for June 23.
The modified time-tables have allowed Metro Bus services between Saddar and Faizabad to run from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm. The road between Saddar and Pakistan Secretariat will, however, be closed after 7:00 pm and services between IJP Road and Pakistan Secretariat will be suspended from 6:00 am till 10:00 pm.
The restrictions are part of a wider security plan to guarantee the safe and orderly travel of the visiting Iranian leader during his meetings with Islamabad, officials said.
Commuters have been urged to plan alternate routes for their travel as there are road closures, traffic diversions and other security checkpoints in various areas of Islamabad and Rawalpindi expected to cause delays.
The police have advised people to adhere to the official traffic announcements and Metro Bus instructions when travelling to minimise inconvenience.
