Web desk: According to the district administration, all government and private schools and colleges will remain closed from November 4 to 6. Preparations are complete in Nankana Sahib for the 556th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
Schools to Remain Closed
Classes at Baba Guru Nanak University will also be suspended from November 3 to 6.
A spokesperson for the district administration said that the decision was made due to the large number of visitors expected during the celebrations.
Chief Executive Education Shazia Bano and the university administration have issued official notifications to close the institutions.
Thousands of Sikh pilgrims from around the world, including India, are arriving in Nankana Sahib to take part in the celebrations. The Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi has issued visas to 2,100 Sikh pilgrims from India for this occasion.
During their visit, the pilgrims will go to Gurdwara Janm Asthan in Nankana Sahib, Gurdwara Panja Sahib in Hassan Abdal, and Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur in Narowal.
Charge d’Affaires Saad Ahmed Warraich welcomed the Sikh pilgrims and conveyed his best wishes. He said that the Government of Pakistan is committed to helping the Sikh community visit their holy sites and to promoting interfaith harmony.
These visas were issued under the 1974 Protocol on Visits to Religious Places. This allows citizens of both countries to visit each other’s sacred sites.
Historical Significance
Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism, was born in 1469 in Nankana Sahib, which is now part of Punjab, Pakistan.
His message was based on equality, peace, kindness, and service to humanity. Every year, devotees from around the world visit Gurdwara Janam Asthan to mark his birth anniversary with great devotion.
The celebrations include prayers, community meals (langar), and peace processions that promote Guru Nanak’s message of unity and brotherhood.
The 556th birth anniversary holds special importance as the Punjab government and local authorities have made special arrangements to welcome and assist all visitors.
