The International Hockey Federation (FIH) has now apologised to the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) after they displayed the country’s national flag incorrectly.
The incident happened at an FIH Hockey Pro League match in London on Tuesday.
PHF President Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani received a letter from FIH Hockey Pro League Director Hilary Atkinson.
He said that he regretted the incident and the accepted the importance of a national flag as a symbol of pride and identity.
The Director shared, “We apologise unreservedly for this error. We understand that a team’s flag is an important symbol of identity, pride and representation and we deeply regret any offence this may have caused to your team, supporters, people and National Federation.”
The federation has taken full accountability for the operational mistake. They also guaranteed that no such incident would happen in the future.
Pakistan’s participation in the FIH Hockey Pro League in London was appreciated in the letter as well.
FIH added that the federation would treat all participating teams with respect moving onwards.
Earlier, the Pakistan hockey team gave their all in a tough match against rivals India in the FIH Pro League in London, England.
The Pakistani team went down 3-4 in the intense match against India. Many key players of the team also suffered injuries amid the game.
Nadeem Ahmed, in the eighth minute, converted a penalty corner to the Pakistan hockey team a chance at leading the game.
