ITP unveils special traffic plan for Islamabad’s Muharram procession
Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) on Wednesday announced a comprehensive traffic management plan for the 8th Muharram procession in Sector G-6, urging commuters to use alternative routes to avoid disruptions.
According to traffic officials, the procession will begin at 1:00 p.m. from House No. 443-A, Street 71, Sector G-6/1. The route will pass through the G-6/1-2 bus stop and Masjid Darussalam before concluding at an Imambargah in Sector G-6/2.
To ensure the smooth movement of mourners and maintain traffic flow in surrounding areas, special arrangements have been put in place. Traffic diversions will remain in effect at key points, including the CDA Hospital side, Melody Chowk side, and Iqbal Hall side during the procession.
Motorists have been advised to use Municipal Road and 7th Avenue as alternative routes to minimise travel delays. Residents of Sectors G-6/1 and G-6/2 can access the area through Service Road, Ambassador Hotel Road, and Suhrawardy Road.
The traffic police have appealed to the public to cooperate with on-duty personnel and follow designated diversions. Participants in the procession have also been instructed to park their vehicles and motorcycles only in authorised parking areas.
Citizens can stay informed about traffic conditions and travel advisories through Islamabad Traffic Police’s social media channels and FM 92.4.
Mobile jammers and armoured personnel carriers are also present to assist law enforcement agencies throughout the procession. The procession route has been cordoned off with tents, and participants are being allowed entry only after thorough checking.
