FIFA has suspended the membership of the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) with immediate effect. According to FIFA, the decision has been taken under Article 16, and the suspension will remain in force until further notice. As a result, Nepal’s national and club teams are not eligible to participate in any international competitions.
Due to the suspension, the All Nepal Football Association has lost all its membership rights. No Nepali player or official will be able to benefit from FIFA or AFC programs.
In 2016, FIFA’s Ethics Committee banned then-ANFA president Ganesh Thapa over bribery allegations. He was also investigated by Nepalese authorities for allegedly embezzling millions in development funds.
As a result of the ongoing instability, domestic football in Nepal has effectively come to a standstill. Many players have been forced to move abroad in search of clubs and playing opportunities.
It is estimated that between 1,250 and 2,100 players across three tiers of Nepali football are currently without regular matches or stable income. With no clear timeline for the resumption of the domestic league, the latest FIFA suspension has further deepened uncertainty over the future of football in Nepal.
On the other hand, exciting matches continued in the FIFA World Cup 2026 as Brazil, Mexico, and Morocco secured impressive victories, while Switzerland and Canada advanced to the knockout stage.
