Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has officially joined Nottinghamshire after signing a short-term contract for the remainder of the Vitality Blast.
Nottinghamshire confirmed that Amir will be registered as a domestic player because he holds a British passport, meaning he will not occupy an overseas player slot, according to media reports.
The club welcomed the experienced left-arm pacer to the squad as he prepares to feature in the remaining matches of the T20 competition.
Expressing his excitement, Amir said, “I am delighted to join Nottinghamshire for the Vitality Blast. I have heard a lot about the club, and I am looking forward to playing for them.”
Amir is also expected to feature in The Hundred. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has informed all franchises that Amir is available to sign as a local player.
He is likely to join Trent Rockets as a domestic player for The Hundred. If another franchise does not select him, he is expected to represent the Trent Rockets. According to sources, Amir has already signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the franchise.
It is worth noting that former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir recently became a British citizen after being issued a British passport by the UK government.
Mohammad Amir expressed his delight after joining Nottinghamshire, saying he had heard a great deal about the club and was excited to represent the team.
“I am delighted to be part of Nottinghamshire. I have many great memories of playing at Trent Bridge, and I will do my best to entertain the fans with my cricket and contribute to the team’s success,” Amir said.
Nottinghamshire head coach Peter Moores praised Amir’s qualities, describing him as a highly skilled bowler, particularly in the powerplay and at the death. He added that Amir’s ability to perform under pressure makes him a valuable asset to any team worldwide.
Amir has previously represented Essex, Gloucestershire and Derbyshire in England’s domestic T20 competitions. He has also played in The Hundred for the London Spirit, Oval Invincibles and Northern Superchargers.
The former Pakistan fast bowler last represented Pakistan during the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. After obtaining a British passport, he is now expected to have greater opportunities in English domestic cricket.
