The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports has announced the nationwide implementation of cashless transactions across all passport offices, marking a key milestone in the government’s push toward digital governance and service modernisation.
According to a message shared on the social media platform X, the Director General of Immigration and Passports, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, described the development as another milestone in the department’s reform agenda.
“Alhamdulillah, another milestone achieved,” the DG stated, noting that the initiative is now fully operational across all passport offices in Pakistan. He added that the shift to cashless payments represents an important advancement toward greater digitisation, transparency, efficiency, and improved public service delivery.
Officials say the move is aimed at reducing manual cash handling, minimising delays, and enhancing accountability within passport services. The system is expected to streamline fee payments for applicants while supporting broader efforts to modernise government operations.
On the other hand, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, in a message posted on the social media platform X, said that an important public convenience project has been completed on the instructions of the Prime Minister. Under this initiative, a new and modern system for paying passport fees has been activated across the country.
He said the implementation of the cashless system will spare citizens from long queues and hours of waiting at offices, making the process of obtaining a passport more transparent, faster, and easier. He added that this step represents a significant move toward modernising government services.
Mohsin Naqvi further stated that reforms in the passport system are ongoing, and the team of the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports played a key role in completing this project. He said the digital payment system will not only enhance convenience for citizens but also improve transparency within the system.
According to officials, passport fees are now being paid entirely through digital methods in all passport offices across the country. This is expected to reduce cash handling and improve the speed of services. At the government level, this initiative is being described as an important milestone in improving citizen facilitation and advancing modern administrative reforms.
