Punjab ends Friday holiday for government offices

The Punjab government has decided to abolish the Friday holiday in the province on Thursday. According to the details, official business across the province will continue as usual from tomorrow.

Under the decision, Friday will be observed as a regular working day in Punjab. Additionally, all government offices across the province will remain open during normal working hours.

According to official directives, routine office operations will continue at the Civil Secretariat. In addition, all government departments and their subordinate institutions will continue their work.

Government employees have been instructed to report for duty as per their regular schedules.

Government sources said that the decision was taken to make sure that the administrative work and public services continue uninterrupted.

As a result, citizens will continue to receive government services on Fridays without disruption.

The official notification says that all relevant departments have been directed to implement the decision.

No government office will observe a holiday on Friday, and all offices will operate according to their specified working hours.

Punjab market timings

According to further details, the market timings will remain the same as before.

Before Punjab, the KP government had also abolished the 100 per cent work from home facility on Fridays on June 30.

The government offices remained closed on Fridays due to austerity measures prior to this. This resulted in a weekly pause in official activities.

Govt decides to end austerity measures

Before this, Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif approved the withdrawal of fuel conservation and additional austerity measures. This ended several restrictions that had been in place since March 9, 2026.

According to sources, the government has lifted most energy conservation measures. However, limitations on the market hours, commercial centres, and businesses will continue.

Under the existing rules, shops, markets, and shopping malls must close by 9 PM. Additionally, wedding halls and marquees can remain open until 10 PM.

Restaurants, cafés, and other food outlets have to be closed by 11 PM. Although takeaway and home delivery services are exempt from these timings.
