The Prime Minister National Under-21 Women’s Hockey Championship, organised by the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), has officially begun, featuring 16 teams from across the country competing for the national title.
The championship was inaugurated at Naseer Banda Hockey Stadium by PHF President and Federal Secretary for Inter-Provincial Coordination, Mohiuddin Wani.
The tournament aims to promote and develop women’s hockey at the grassroots level and provide young players with a competitive national platform.
He said that the Pakistan Hockey Federation is taking vigorous steps for the revival, promotion, and development of the national game of hockey. He added that two women’s teams will be formed by selecting talented players from the National Women’s Championship. Mohiuddin Wani further stated that the selected team will represent Pakistan in the Under-18 Asia Hockey Cup, while the Five-a-Side Under-18 Asia Cup will be played in Oman this year.
He also said that Pakistan’s senior women’s hockey team will be prepared, and the best coaches will be hired to improve the skills of female players. The PHF President reiterated the commitment that all available resources will be utilised to build women’s hockey on a strong foundation and bring Pakistan back to prominence in world hockey.
On the first day of the championship, Sindh, Punjab B, and Kashmir recorded victories. Sindh defeated Khyber Pakhtunkhwa A by 4–0, with Sindh player Anusha Shah scoring a brilliant hat-trick. In another one-sided match, Kashmir made a strong start to the event by defeating Khyber Pakhtunkhwa B by 9–0.
