The National Highway Authority (NHA) has officially increased toll charges for people travelling on the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway (M-2). The revised rates will take effect from July 5 (today).
The new toll adjustment represents a 7% increase and will remain in force until April 23, 2027. Additionally, the increase has been introduced under the concession agreement signed between the NHA and Motorway Operations and Rehabilitation Engineering, a subsidiary of the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO).
Moreover, motorists now using the M-2 Motorway will pay higher charges depending on their vehicle category. For cars, jeeps and taxis, the new toll has been set at Rs1,430. Wagons will now pay Rs2,390, and for coasters pay Rs3,350, whereas buses will be charged Rs4,770.
Heavy transport vehicles have also been affected by the increase. Trucks will now pay Rs6,180, while articulated trucks will be charged Rs7,990. The highest revised toll applies to large trucks, which will now pay Rs10,290 for travelling on the motorway.
Further, the notification also includes updated per-kilometre toll rates for each category of vehicle. Cars, jeeps and taxis will be charged Rs3.98 per km, wagons Rs6.68, coasters Rs9.34, buses Rs13.32, trucks Rs17.27, articulated trucks Rs22.32, and large trucks Rs28.74 per km.
The Lahore-Islamabad Motorway is one of Pakistan’s busiest road corridors. Thousands of private and commercial vehicles travel every day using this route. Officials state that periodic revisions to toll rates are necessary to finance maintenance, rehabilitation and modernisation projects that help ensure smoother traffic flow, improved road safety and better travelling conditions.
