The woman linked to the murder of Group Captain Asim Tariq has recorded her statement with the police, according to investigators.
Police officials said WhatsApp messages exchanged between the woman and the murder suspect have also come to light. They said the suspect and the woman worked at the same organisation, and their conversation on WhatsApp began five days before the killing. During the exchange, the suspect allegedly offered to pick her up and drop her off.
According to the woman’s statement, she was on her way to work on the day of the incident when the suspect tried to force her to go to Islamabad’s F-9 Park. She said she got off the motorcycle as soon as she had the opportunity, after which the suspect allegedly began assaulting her with a pistol.
She told police that Group Captain Asim Tariq then arrived at the scene and tried to find out what was happening.
According to sources, the suspect told Group Captain Asim Tariq that it was a “family matter”, prompting the officer to leave. However, after driving a short distance, he reportedly noticed in his rear-view mirror that the suspect was carrying a pistol. He then turned his vehicle around and returned to speak to the suspect.
During the conversation, the suspect allegedly opened fire, fatally shooting Group Captain Asim Tariq.
