Pakistan pledges role in easing Middle East tensions through dialogue

Pakistan has expressed deep concern over the escalating tensions in the region, warning that renewed conflict serves no one’s interest.

In a statement issued in Islamabad, Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint and avoid any actions that could further undermine regional peace and stability.

He said there is no alternative to continued engagement, dialogue and diplomacy to achieve the shared goal of peace in the region.

Pakistan has urged all sides to uphold their respective commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which remains an enduring foundation for understanding, mutual respect and shared prosperity for the region and beyond. Tahir Andrabi said Pakistan remains ready to continue playing its role in this regard. Pakistan remains ready to continue playing its role in supporting dialogue and diplomatic efforts to ease tensions, he said.

On the other hand, US President Donald Trump said, “I think the ceasefire and the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Iran are over.”

Speaking to the media alongside NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Ankara, Trump said the ceasefire agreement and the memorandum of understanding with Iran were effectively over following Iran’s attacks.

Trump added that negotiators from both sides could continue talks, but said he believed they would be wasting their time.

He further said, “We have to do our job on the Iran issue now. We don’t want a deal with Iran. We have wasted a lot of time on the Iran issue, and now we have to do our job.”
