Punjab government offered a loan to citizens living in the province of up to Rs1 million under the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar scheme, the private media outlet reported on Thursday.
Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz said that the eligible citizens can get an interest-free loan up to Rs1 million and can pay back in instalments.
Maryam Nawaz further said that the people can take the interest-free loan for seven, eight, or nine years.
Earlier, the CM of Punjab decided to start the “Apna Ghar Mehfooz Ghar” scheme as an extension to the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar programme to avoid incidents like the Kahna tuition centre roof collapse.
According to the CM Punjab, the citizens can get a loan of Rs5 lakh for the renovation of their houses, and to make their roofs strong. Similarly, the citizens can get a loan of Rs 1 million for the construction of an additional floor on existing houses.
Maryam Nawaz also said that the government already approved the loan for more than 80 thousand families in Punjab, adding that the government has provided the loan to more than 1 lakh 70 thousand families so far.

Earlier, the Punjab government had announced financial support for eligible families receiving farmland under its Apna Khet Apna Rozgar scheme, with beneficiaries set to receive Rs250,000 if they are allotted five acres of land.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said the provincial government would provide Rs50,000 per acre to help families begin cultivation on the land allocated to them.
