Light rain is expected in Karachi today (Tuesday) as moisture-laden winds from the Arabian Sea continue to influence weather conditions across parts of Pakistan, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The PMD’s Early Warning Centre said Karachi is likely to witness stronger-than-normal winds, with light rain or drizzle expected on Tuesday. Similar weather conditions may persist into Wednesday.
The Met Office stated that moist currents from the Arabian Sea are penetrating the upper and central regions of the country, while a westerly weather system continues to affect northern areas.
Most districts of Sindh are expected to remain hot and humid under the prevailing weather pattern. However, dust storms and thunderstorms with rain are likely in Dadu, Qambar Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, Larkana, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Sukkur, Ghotki, Khairpur, Naushahro Feroze, Shaheed Benazirabad and Sanghar.
Coastal areas of Sindh, including Karachi, are expected to remain partly cloudy, with occasional strong winds and isolated spells of drizzle or light rain.
New monsoon rain system
Previously, flood and landslide alerts were issued because of a new monsoon weather system expected from July 10 to 13.
The National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) of the NDMA warned of possible floods, landslides, and rising water levels in rivers and canals, especially in northern parts of the country.
Rain is expected in several cities, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, and Faisalabad.
Thunderstorms are also likely in different districts of South Punjab, upper Sindh, and Balochistan.
Heavy rain may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas. Water levels in rivers and drains may also rise, and landslides can also occur.
