A nine-year-old girl died after falling into an uncovered drain opening in the swimming pool area of Lahore’s Sozo Water Park, where she became trapped in a drainage pipe, the private media outlet reported on Tuesday.

According to police, the incident occurred while the child was at the park with her family. Rescue efforts were launched after she disappeared, but she was later found stuck inside the drainage system. She could not be saved.

Police have arrested the manager of Sozo Water Park, along with the security in-charge and CCTV in-charge, over alleged negligence. A case has been registered, and investigators are examining the circumstances that led to the tragedy.

Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage, inspecting the park’s safety measures, and assessing whether mandatory safety regulations were violated. The incident has sparked serious concerns about safety standards at recreational facilities, with officials vowing to take action against anyone found responsible once the investigation is complete.

Earlier, the Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, warned that housing society owners will face arrest if citizens fall into open manholes in the future.

According to details, she issued the warning while chairing a meeting of commissioners in which officials briefed her on development projects across different districts of Punjab.

The Chief Minister expressed strong anger over the recent death of a three-year-old girl in Faisalabad who fell into an open sewer. She said such negligence will not be tolerated in any housing society.
