Pakistan has become a founding member of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organisation (WAICO) after Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar signed the organisation’s founding agreement in Shanghai.

According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, the signing ceremony marked the formal establishment of WAICO, an international platform aimed at promoting cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).

In a statement, the Foreign Office said Pakistan had reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening global collaboration on AI as a founding member of the organisation.

It said Pakistan would work with other member states to help reduce the global “AI divide” and promote fair and equitable access to artificial intelligence technologies.

The Foreign Office added that Pakistan believes international cooperation, joint research and development, and equal access to emerging technologies are essential for sustainable development.

According to the statement, the WAICO platform will provide opportunities for member countries to expand partnerships, exchange knowledge and encourage the responsible and effective use of AI technologies.

The government said Pakistan intends to play an active role within the organisation as countries seek to increase cooperation on the development and governance of artificial intelligence.
