Smart no-parking cameras to be installed across Karachi

Smart no-parking cameras Karachi

The government of Sindh is about to install smart no-parking cameras across Karachi.

Karachi is set to introduce smart cameras to detect vehicles parked in no-parking zones as part of efforts to improve traffic management and enforce road regulations.

The Sindh Safe Cities Authority said the new cameras will be installed at designated no-parking areas across the city. The system will automatically identify vehicles violating parking rules and transmit the information to the Traffic Regulation and Citation System (TRACS) operated by the Karachi Traffic Police.

Director General (DG) of the Traffic Police, Sarfaraz Nawaz, said that motorists found parking in prohibited areas will receive electronic challans through the TRACS system without requiring any direct interaction with traffic officers.

He said the initiative forms part of the wider Karachi Safe City Project, which aims to use technology to strengthen public safety and improve traffic enforcement.

According to the authority, more than 1,300 AI-powered surveillance cameras have already been installed at locations across Karachi under the project.

Officials said the addition of smart no-parking cameras will expand the existing surveillance network and allow traffic police to issue real-time, contactless e-challans to motorists violating parking regulations.

Authorities say the move is intended to improve traffic flow, reduce illegal parking and support more efficient enforcement through the use of automated technology.
