K-Electric (KE) has clarified that there has been no change in the eligibility criteria for consumers under the Protected Category, advising customers to ignore unverified claims circulating on social media.
The power utility said eligible residential Non-Time-of-Use (Non-TOU) consumers do not permanently lose their Protected Status if their monthly electricity consumption exceeds 200 units on one occasion.
According to KE, consumers can regain their Protected Status by reducing their monthly electricity consumption to 200 units or below for six consecutive months, provided they continue to meet the applicable eligibility requirements.
The utility urged customers to rely only on its official communication channels for accurate and verified information regarding electricity tariffs, consumer categories, and billing policies.
Separately, KE also advised citizens to exercise caution as the monsoon season begins, particularly in areas prone to waterlogging.
The company said its operational teams are maintaining round-the-clock monitoring of weather conditions and the power supply network. KE management is also coordinating closely with civic agencies and the city administration to ensure a timely response in line with forecasts issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department.
Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, KE acknowledged the challenges posed by heavy rainfall and urged residents to remain vigilant and follow safety guidelines during the monsoon season.
On the other hand, the facility of free electricity units for government officers was abolished, and they will now receive electricity bills like ordinary consumers.
According to a private TV channel, the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has withdrawn the free electricity benefit for officers in Grades 18 to 20. As a result, these officers have started receiving regular electricity bills for the first time, with reports claiming that nearly half of some officers’ salaries are now being spent on electricity expenses after the removal of the decades-old benefit.
According to LESCO sources, Grade 18 officers previously received 6,000 free electricity units annually, Grade 19 officers were entitled to 8,000 units, while Grade 20 officers received 10,000 free units each year.
