Web desk: Political activity has intensified ahead of the expected presentation of the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill in the Senate, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inviting senators from coalition parties to an important consultative meeting.
According to the Prime Minister’s House, formal invitations have been issued to all senators of the coalition parties. The meeting will be followed by a dinner hosted by the Prime Minister at the Prime Minister’s House this evening.
The purpose of the meeting is to review and discuss key aspects of the proposed constitutional amendment in detail. Coalition senators will share their opinions and suggestions to build consensus before finalising the amendment bill.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will personally brief the coalition leaders on the major points of the amendment and listen to their concerns, according to the reports.
The meeting is expected to cover provisions related to the parliamentary system, provincial powers, and the electoral process, as per the reports.
Officials say this consultative effort represents the government’s first step toward ensuring the amendment’s smooth passage in Parliament.
The government expects to secure strong support from its coalition partners through this round of discussions.
Nationwide Protests Announced
The opposition alliance Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan (TTAP) on Saturday announced a countrywide protest campaign against the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment, calling it an “extremely dark and dangerous” change to the Constitution.
Earlier in the day, the federal cabinet approved the amendment bill, which was then presented in the Senate and referred to the standing committees on law and justice for review.
TTAP, an alliance of six opposition parties formed last year, had formalised its organisational structure in July, pledging full support for all anti-government demonstrations.
In a joint video statement, Pashtunkhawa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) Chairman Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen Chairman Senator Allama Raja Nasir Abbas announced that the protest movement would begin on Sunday, November 9.
