PML-N Senator Irfan Siddiqui not on Ventilator, Family Refutes Rumors

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Irfan Siddiqui’s family refuted the rumors saying that he is not on the ventilator.

The update came after reports emerged that Senator Irfan Siddiqui has fallen critically ill and has been placed on a ventilator.

The family said the senator will not be able to cast his vote today on the 27th Constitutional Amendment.

The family sources said today that the senator has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a private hospital in Islamabad for the past several days due to severe breathing difficulties, family sources confirmed on Monday.

In an exclusive statement to the media, close family members categorically denied viral social media claims that the senator has been placed on a ventilator.

He is not on ventilator support. Reports circulating on social media are false and baseless, the family said.

Who is Senator Irfan Siddiqui?

Senator Irfan Siddiqui, Hilal-e-Imtiaz, is a Pakistani politician and a columnist currently serving as a member of Senator from the province of Punjab under the banner of PML-N.

Previously he served as special adviser on national affairs to the former Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif and as the press secretary of the former President of Pakistan Rafiq Tarar.

27th Amendment Bill set to be tabled in Senate today

It is pertinent to mention here that the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill is all set to be tabled in the senate today (Monday), after approval from the joint parliamentary Standing Committees on Law and Justice

The joint parliamentary Standing Committees on Law and Justice of both the Senate and the National Assembly met on Sunday and unanimously cleared a draft of the 27th Constitutional Amendment after a clause-by-clause review.

The Senate Secretariat has issued the orders of the day for November 10, which includes the key legislative business.

The meeting which okayed the draft was held in Committee Room No. 5 of the National Assembly of Pakistan and chaired by Senator Farooq H. Naek.
