According to sources in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Police on Tuesday, reports claiming that banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) core member Shaukat Nawaz Mir was arrested are not true.
According to the details, the BBC report about his alleged arrest was incorrect, and it did not reflect the facts. The highly placed police sources added that there is no truth to the reports of Mir’s arrest as of now, and efforts for arrest continue.

According to the details, core members of the banned JAAC are wanted in several cases. Sources said that raids are continuing to arrest him, but he has not yet been taken into custody.

Details add that the banned JAAC is accused of inciting the public against the state. They added that the committee had been demanding the abolition of reserved seats for refugees in the Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly.

Earlier, the AJK Home Department also announced cash rewards for information leading to the arrest of four active leaders of the banned committee. The names on the reward list included Shaukat Nawaz Mir, Umar Nazir Kashmiri, Khawaja Mehran Arshad, and Sardar Aman.
