Pakistani national dies in Abu Dhabi missile attack

A Pakistani and an Indian national were killed in Abu Dhabi after being hit by missile shrapnel following an Iranian attack, authorities confirmed on Thursday.

According to officials, the UAE air defence system intercepted and destroyed an Iranian missile in the air on Thursday.

However, debris from the missile fell into a busy commercial area on Sweihan Street, Abu Dhabi. It caused casualties and damaged several vehicles.

Two people, one Pakistani and one Indian, died after being struck by shrapnel.

Three others were injured in the incident. The injured include an Emirati, a Jordanian and an Indian national. Their injuries range from moderate to severe, reports suggest.

The Abu Dhabi government media office said that authorities are investigating the incident.

Officials have urged residents to rely only on official sources for information and avoid spreading reports that are not verified.

During a media briefing, officials also showed debris from missiles and drones recovered after the attack.

UAE authorities said the air defence system has intercepted hundreds of Iranian ballistic missiles in recent weeks.

Earlier this week, a civilian contractor working with the UAE armed forces was killed in Bahrain during routine duties following a strike, according to the reports.

The UAE Ministry of Defence also reported that five of its personnel were injured in what it described as bold Iranian attacks.

Since February 28, two members of the UAE armed forces have been killed.

In addition, seven foreign nationals, including citizens of Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh and Palestine, have died in related incidents. A total of 145 people have been injured so far, according to the reports.

Among the injured are nationals from several countries. These include the UAE, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, the Philippines, Pakistan, Iran, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan, Yemen, Uganda, Eritrea, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Nigeria, Jordan, Turkey and Sweden. Most of them were workers living in the UAE.
