Pakistan’s experienced fast bowler Mohammad Amir has named Indian batting superstar Virat Kohli as the toughest opponent he has faced in his career.
Speaking to Wisden, Amir praised Kohli’s remarkable consistency, ability to perform under pressure, and exceptional match-finishing skills, saying these qualities make him stand out from other batsmen of the modern era.
Amir added that Kohli is “second to none” among current-generation players and has always been a difficult challenge to bowl against, especially in high-pressure matches.
He highlighted Kohli’s ability to deliver in crucial moments as one of the reasons behind his status as one of the greatest batsmen in contemporary cricket.
Amir said he has mentioned several times that, among the current generation of players, Virat Kohli is the batsman he found the most difficult to bowl to. He added that Kohli always delivers his best performances in high-pressure matches, which is why he is regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of the modern era.
Amir also named former Australian captain Ricky Ponting and all-rounder Shane Watson as challenging opponents, but he believes Kohli stands above all current players.
It is worth noting that Mohammad Amir and Virat Kohli have been involved in several memorable encounters. Amir dismissed Kohli early in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy final, while Kohli has also played several match-winning innings against Pakistan, guiding India to memorable victories.
