Some videos and posts are circulating on social media showing the speech by the Afghan ambassador at the National Defence University (NDU). According to reports on Wednesday, they are being used to suggest that Pakistan may have changed its policy towards Afghanistan.
The National Defence University is an educational institution where guest speakers from different sections of society are invited to share their views.
Reports say that it is not only the Afghan ambassador. Indian ambassadors have also visited NDU several times and expressed their views.
The reports add that as far as any change in Afghan policy is concerned, Pakistan’s position on the Afghan Taliban regime remains unchanged: “The Afghan regime is an illegal, non-inclusive and unrepresentative group that came to power through the use of force. The first priority of this regime is to turn Afghanistan into a centre of terrorism and export it to neighbouring countries.”
Chatham House Rule
Reports say that the most important point is that lectures at NDU are held under the Chatham House Rule.
It is an international rule under which people taking part in a meeting, discussion or seminar are allowed to use the information shared there.
However, they cannot say who made the statement, where it was made or who it was made to.
The Afghan ambassador later came out and made a statement and released illegal videos on social media.
Reports say that this once again showed that this is a group that does not care about international rules or ethics.
‘Afghanistan degrees will not be recognised in Pakistan’
Separately, Afghanistan degrees will no longer be recognised by the Pakistani government or private institutions, according to sources.
Sources said degrees obtained from educational institutions in Afghanistan would not be accepted as a qualification for employment in Pakistan.
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) will also not verify or attest such degrees, according to the sources.
