A British media report has revealed deep divisions within the Afghan Taliban leadership.
According to the details, an alleged audio recording warns of an internal rebellion by the Taliban chief.
‘It was a piece of audio obtained by the BBC that revealed what worries the Taliban’s leader most,’ the BBC reported
According to the report by BBC, ‘in the leaked clip, the supreme leader Hibatullah Akhundzada can be heard giving a speech saying that internal disagreements could eventually bring them all down.’
‘”As a result of these divisions, the emirate will collapse and end,” he warned,’ the BBC further reports.
According to British media, there is a power struggle of “Kandahar versus Kabul” within the Taliban, which has now been exposed.
According to the details, the Kandahar faction supports Hibatullah Akhundzada.
While another Taliban faction based in Kabul opposes him.
The report further suggests that the Kabul faction favours education and global engagement.
However, the Kandahar faction maintains a hardline stance.
The British media report further suggested that these internal rifts could lead to the collapse of the Islamic Emirate.
‘It is a split the Taliban leadership has always denied – including when asked directly by the BBC,’ the report further adds.
According to the report, the rumours led the BBC’s Afghan service to launch a year-long investigation into the secretive group.
It included over 100 interviews with current and former Taliban members, local sources, experts, and former diplomats.
‘Because of the sensitivity over reporting this story, the BBC has agreed not to identify them for their safety,’ the report states.
