An attempt to disturb law and order in Muzaffarabad and disrupt the peaceful conduct of the upcoming general elections has been foiled following timely action by AJK police.
Police officials said the situation is now fully under control, and peace has been maintained across the city. Authorities remain vigilant to ensure a peaceful and secure environment during the electoral process.
According to a press release issued by the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Police, following the successful completion of elections in the Mirpur Division, some elements attempted to influence the electoral process and disturb the law and order situation in Muzaffarabad. However, law enforcement agencies responded promptly and brought the situation under control.
Initial reports indicate that around 200 to 300 people were involved in riots at two to three different locations in Muzaffarabad, during which two police personnel were seriously injured. The police stated that their officers demonstrated professionalism, restraint and responsibility, preventing the situation from escalating further.
According to the police, preliminary investigations and available evidence suggest that the objective of these activities was to disrupt the peaceful conduct of the general elections scheduled to be held in the Muzaffarabad division on August 2, 2026, and to disturb the law and order situation.
The statement added that timely action not only brought the situation under control but also ensured the protection of the democratic process, transparent voting, government property, and the lives and property of citizens.
The public is requested not to pay attention to rumours and unverified information, to demonstrate responsible citizenship, and to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace and public order.
The AJK Police reiterates its commitment to ensuring the protection of the lives and property of the people, the supremacy of law, and the peaceful conduct of the democratic process under all circumstances. Meanwhile, action will continue to be taken, in accordance with the law and without discrimination, against elements seeking to undermine peace and stability.
