New Android update to warn users about fake callers, AirDrop compatibility included

Google’s new Android update addresses the rising issue of fake scam calls with a call detection feature.

It also improves Circle to Search features and increases AirDrop compatibility for more Android devices, while adding safety features for children. These new functions are beginning to be released now.

Named Gemini Intelligence, it aims to transform AI agents into genuine assistants that can proactively help without needing prompts.

Android’s fake call detection feature, included in the Phone app, will notify you if it seems someone is pretending to be one of your contacts.

For example, if you receive a call from “Dad” and the system identifies it as a scam, you will see an alert saying, “This may not be Dad. Someone may be pretending to call from your contact’s number.”

This feature can be particularly useful as AI technology makes it easier to mimic the voices of friends and family, resulting in more complex and harmful scams.

How fake call detection works

Fake call detection operates by performing a real-time verification between both phones to determine if the caller is genuine.

Your phone will check with your dad’s phone to verify that he did not make the call. You will receive the alert and a suggestion to hang up.

This feature is being rolled out worldwide this month in Phone by Google on devices running Android 12 and above, starting with Pixel devices.

Both the caller and the recipient must be using Google’s Phone app. Additionally, fake call detection requires RCS capability in Google Messages.

AirDrop compatibility included in new Android update

Addition of Apple’s AirDrop support in Quick Share is also featured in the new Android update.

Now, sharing photos, videos, and other media between iPhones and Android devices is simple with just a few taps.

It is important to note that AirDrop compatibility is already present on some phones like the Google Pixel 9 and 10, as well as the Samsung Galaxy S26 series.

It will now extend to more Android devices, including the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, Z TriFold, S24 series, Z Fold 6, and Z Flip 6.

Additionally, it will be available on the OnePlus 15, Xiaomi 17T Pro, Honor Magic V6, and Vivo X300 and X300 Pro.
