Indian batting star Virat Kohli has achieved another historic milestone, becoming the first cricketer in the world to score 13,000 runs while batting at number three in One Day Internationals (ODIs).

The 37-year-old reached the landmark during the first ODI against New Zealand at Eden Park in Auckland. Needing just 12 runs to complete the milestone, Kohli achieved the feat off the 13th ball of his innings. Kohli has reached the 13,000-run mark at number three in just 251 innings, maintaining an impressive average of 61.55. His record from this batting position also includes 48 centuries and nearly 70 half-centuries.

Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting is second on the list with 12,662 runs, followed by former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara with 9,747 runs. South Africa’s Jacques Kallis occupies fourth place with 7,774 runs, while New Zealand’s Kane Williamson is fifth with 6,504 runs.

Among active international cricketers, Pakistan’s Babar Azam has scored 6,054 runs at number three, while England’s Joe Root has accumulated 5,525 runs, leaving both well behind Kohli’s record.
Kohli has also enjoyed an impressive run of form in 2026. Before the New Zealand series, he had scored 552 runs in nine innings, including two centuries and three half-centuries.
