ASELSAN's LGK-84 Precision Strike

ASELSAN has demonstrated the precision capabilities of its LGK-84 laser-guided kit. The system successfully struck two armored targets from a Turkish F-16. The tests took place at the Konya Karapınar Firing Test Range in Türkiye. More than 15 countries sent military officials to observe the demonstration.

F-16 Conducts Two LGK-84 Strikes

The demonstration included two separate LGK-84 launches from an F-16 aircraft. The first strike targeted an armored personnel carrier. The second strike targeted a tank. Both LGK-84 weapons hit their designated targets directly. The results showed the system’s ability to deliver precise strikes against fixed ground targets. ASELSAN developed the LGK-84 as part of its laser-guided munition family. The latest demonstration highlights the ASELSAN LGK-84’s precision strike capability, as a Turkish F-16 successfully hit two armored targets. The LGK-84 is designed for use with the Mk-84 class of general-purpose bombs. It adds laser guidance to the bomb, improving accuracy against designated targets.

Laser Guidance Improves Accuracy

Laser guidance allows the weapon to track a designated target during its final approach. This provides greater precision than an unguided bomb. ASELSAN’s guidance kits have been developed for Turkish combat aircraft. The LGK-84 has also been certified for platforms including the F-16. The company has previously reported successful performance tests involving stationary and moving targets. Its guidance systems are part of Türkiye’s wider effort to develop domestic defense technologies. The latest demonstration provided another public test of that capability. It also placed the system before international military observers.

Other Weapons Tested During Demonstration

The event included more than the two LGK-84 strikes. An AKINCI unmanned aircraft also conducted guided-weapon tests. The AKINCI launched an LGK-82 against an armored personnel carrier. The weapon successfully hit its designated target. A GÖZDE guidance kit was also tested against a moving target. The target traveled at 50 kilometers per hour during the test. All four demonstrations achieved direct hits. These included two LGK-84 strikes, one LGK-82 strike, and one GÖZDE engagement.

Türkiye Expands Precision Strike Technology

The successful tests underline Türkiye’s growing focus on domestically developed precision-guided weapons.ASELSAN has continued developing guidance technologies for different aircraft and munitions. These systems support greater accuracy while using existing bomb designs. The LGK-84 represents the heavier member of ASELSAN’s LGK family. It is designed around the Mk-84 bomb and intended for air-to-ground missions. The latest demonstration also shows the continued integration of these systems with Turkish F-16 aircraft. The test demonstrates the LGK-84’s ability to deliver precise strikes, with a Turkish F-16 successfully hitting two armored targets. The direct hits against both an armored personnel carrier and a tank provide clear evidence of the system’s demonstrated accuracy. The international audience also gave the test wider visibility. Military officials from more than 15 countries attended the event in Konya.
