A Karachi court on Friday acquitted Natasha Danish, the driver involved in the August 2024 Karsaz road accident, in a separate drug case, citing insufficient evidence.
The Judicial Magistrate (East) ruled that the prosecution had failed to prove the charges against Natasha. Her lawyer, Fawad Ali Khichi, represented her during the proceedings.
The drug case was registered after a medical examination reportedly indicated that Natasha was under the influence of methamphetamine, commonly known as crystal meth or ice, when the accident occurred.
However, speaking to the media after Friday’s hearing, Khichi said that no traces of methamphetamine were found in Natasha’s chemical examination or blood tests. He alleged that the police had tampered with the samples collected from her and claimed that the investigating officer had concealed the blood test report.
The case had been registered under Section 11 of the Prohibition (Enforcement of Hadd) Order, 1979.
The Karsaz accident occurred on August 19, 2024, when a speeding Toyota Land Cruiser driven by Natasha struck three motorcycles and another vehicle on Karsaz Road. The crash killed 60-year-old Imran Arif and his 22-year-old daughter, Amna, and injured three other people.
Natasha was arrested at the scene and initially booked in a murder case. In September 2024, she was granted bail in the murder case after the victims’ family pardoned her without receiving blood money.
In October 2024, a district and sessions court acquitted Natasha in the murder case after accepting a compromise between the parties.
The separate drug case continued despite her acquittal in the main accident case. In May 2025, a judicial magistrate had rejected her plea seeking acquittal in the drug case. She was later granted bail by the Sindh High Court after the police submitted a charge sheet.
The latest court ruling brings the drug case against Natasha to an end, with the court acquitting her after finding that the prosecution failed to establish the allegations.
