An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad on Thursday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers, including Meena Khan, Shahid Khattak and Shafi Jan.
Non-bailable arrest warrants have been issued for the four accused named in Case No. 975/24 registered at Ramna Police Station. The court directed the Station House Officer (SHO) of Ramna Police Station to arrest the four accused and produce them before the court. A case has been registered against Sohail Afridi, Meena Khan Afridi, Shahid Khattak and Shafi Jan under serious charges, including terrorism.
The court has directed the police to execute the arrest warrants, apprehend all four accused and produce them before the court. Following the court’s order, their arrest and further progress in the case are expected to be key developments at the next hearing.
It is worth mentioning here that an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad on Wednesday upheld the arrest warrants issued against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, Junaid Akbar, Abdul Ghani Afridi and others in the Nov 26 protest case, rejecting their pleas seeking exemption from personal appearance.
ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Supra directed the police to submit the challan against the accused at the earliest and adjourned the hearing until Sept 30.
The court decided after the accused repeatedly failed to appear before it during the proceedings. It rejected the exemption pleas submitted on behalf of those who remained absent and ordered that proceedings against the chief minister and other accused continue. The case was registered at Margalla Police Station against Sohail Afridi and several others in connection with the Nov 26 protest.
