Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar announced that the historic Makkah Joint Defence Agreement has been signed. In a statement, he said the agreement was signed within the premises of the Holy Kaaba in Makkah, describing it as a landmark moment.
According to the Foreign Office, a joint defence summit involving Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan was held at Al-Safa Palace in Makkah. The summit was attended by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
A Foreign Office spokesperson said that during the meeting, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan signed a joint defence pact named the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement. The agreement was signed by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The agreement provides that an attack on any one of the three countries will be considered an attack on all three. Its primary objective is to strengthen their collective defence capabilities against any aggression and to enhance defence cooperation among Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan.
Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Pakistan have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collective security, promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and beyond through the signing of a joint defence agreement.
The agreement states that any armed attack against one of the three countries will be considered an attack against all, reflecting their shared commitment to mutual security. It also includes provisions to expand and enhance defence cooperation across various fields among the three states.
The development came during the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Summit for Joint Defence, held at Al-Safa Palace in Makkah. The summit was convened following an invitation from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visiting Saudi Arabia for the occasion.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud welcomed President Erdoğan and Prime Minister Sharif at Al-Safa Palace, where the leaders discussed the longstanding relations between Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Pakistan.
During the summit, the three sides reviewed bilateral and trilateral cooperation, along with regional and international issues of mutual interest, while emphasising their resolve to work together for a secure and prosperous future.
