The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced that all branches of commercial banks across the country will stay open until 10:00 PM today, Wednesday, September 30, 2026. The extension is meant to help taxpayers pay government duties and taxes over the counter before the end of the day.
According to the SBP, the decision was taken on the request of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). It aims to make it easier for taxpayers to clear their dues in person on the last day of the month and quarter, when banks usually see heavy tax-related traffic.
This gives taxpayers several extra hours after normal banking time to deposit taxes and duties over the counter (OTC), as today is the final datefor filing returns.
Extending bank timings on key deadline days is a regular practice in Pakistan. It helps the FBR collect as much revenue as possible within the reporting period.
In past extensions, banks have also been told to ensure uninterrupted availability of internet banking, mobile banking apps, ATMs, and other digital platforms for the online payment of government duties and taxes. Taxpayers who prefer to avoid queues can use these channels to make payments from home.
