Details have emerged regarding a suicide attack targeting civilians and security personnel in Bannu on 9 May 2026.
According to initial reports, security forces stopped a suspicious vehicle near Police Station Fateh Khel as it was moving towards a civilian-populated area. As police attempted to intercept the vehicle, the attacker detonated explosives, causing a powerful blast.
The explosion resulted in the partial collapse of the roof of Police Station Fateh Khel. Nearby residential houses also sustained significant damage due to the force of the blast.
As a result of the collapse and explosion, 13 people including police personnel and civilians, were killed, while 6 others were injured. The injured include three civilians, who were shifted to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
Authorities stated that Khwarij have increasingly targeted soft and civilian locations following recent successful Operation Ghazab-ul-Haq on the instructions of their Indian masters.
Following the incident, strong public anger has been reported in Bannu, with residents calling for strict action against those responsible. Locals have urged security agencies to intensify operations to eliminate Khwarij threats in the area, whereas the KP CM Sohail Afridi remained tight-lipped on the civilian loss of life.
Earlier it was reported that a suicide attack by the Fitnah al Khawarij on the Fateh Khel police station in Bannu, Khyber Pukhtunkhwa (KP) was foiled.
According to the initial reports, two police personnel were martyred while two others were injured in the exchange of fire.
Reports also said that two civilians were injured. The roof of the post collapsed due to the explosion, and it resulted in casualties, reports say.
Security forces are busy clearing the debris, reports add further. According to the security sources, the Khawarij tried to ram an explosives laden vehicle into the police station. But the police opened fire and blew up the vehicle before it could reach its target.
The explosion also caused heavy damage to nearby civilian houses. Some reports also said that the roofs of several homes collapsed. Security forces have cordoned off the area.
Security sources have said that reports of a suicide attack on Bannu Cantonment are incorrect. A loud explosion was heard far and wide after the vehicle exploded.
