Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari might be joining Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on an official visit to Iran where both leaders will attend the funeral prayers of the country’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to sources in the party.

The visit is planned to be held on July 3-4. The delegation will be headed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Bilawal’s involvement in the visit underscores the importance Pakistan gives to its relations with Iran during the period of their national mourning.

Sources close to the PPP have revealed that Bilawal is also expected to meet the Iranian President and other high-ranking Iranian officials during the visit.

Such meetings will likely discuss the matters that are of bilateral and common interest between the two neighbouring nations.

After the Iran visit, Bilawal is set for a visit to Gilgit-Baltistan where he is going to hold crucial political meetings.

The detailed agenda for his visit to the Gilgit-Baltistan region will be finalised after his return from Iran, according to the PPP sources.

Bilawal is likely to visit the region and take part in the oath taking ceremony for the newly elected Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan.

His participation in the event is being seen as an important gesture of support to the party’s leadership in the region.

The final plan for the Gilgit-Baltistan visit is still being finalised, but party sources say Bilawal’s engagements in the region will start right after his return from Iran.

Through this Bilawal will combine his domestic political commitments and diplomatic responsibilities.
