Cambridge International Education has launched an investigation following reports that an AS-Level Mathematics Paper 1 was allegedly leaked hours before the exam in Pakistan.
In a statement, the board said it was aware of the circulating reports and was conducting a thorough inquiry. It added that further information would be shared with exam centres if necessary, either during or after the June 2026 examination series.
The response came after claims that the AS Mathematics Paper 1 for the June 2026 session, Pure Mathematics 1 (9707), had been leaked ahead of the scheduled afternoon exam on Wednesday.
The incident has sparked anxiety among students and parents, with many questioning fairness and merit within the Cambridge examination system.
This is not the first time such concerns have surfaced. During the June 2025 session, Cambridge confirmed that a limited number of questions from three papers were leaked shortly before exams. According to its Exam Security Team, the breaches involved one question in Mathematics Paper 12, parts of two questions in Paper 42, and portions of one question in Computer Science Paper 22. However, the organisation maintained that there was no evidence of entire papers being shared in advance.
It is important to mention here that the A-level first-year math paper got leaked in Karachi, the private media channel reported yesterday. According to the report, the math paper was leaked on Reddit (a social media app) around 3 to 4 am.
The report also confirmed that the leaked paper was being sold on Reddit and other social media platforms. The private media channel tried to contact the country head of the Cambridge Education System, Uzma Yousuf, but she didn’t respond.
However, earlier in Karachi, the annual papers of Matric and Intermediate got leaked several times.
Intermediate paper leak
Earlier, the annual intermediate examinations under the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Karachi (BIEK) began on Wednesday, but the process was marred by a paper leak on the very first day.
According to reports, the Botany paper was leaked on social media shortly after the exam began. Later, a solved version of the same paper also surfaced in various WhatsApp groups, raising serious concerns about the transparency of the examination process.
