Candidates cleared after years of legal battle in CSS fraud scandal, claims Zahid Ghishkori

Candidates cleared of legal battle in CSS fraud scandal

Two candidates from the Memon family in Karachi emerged as the top performers in the CSS exam. However, when they appeared for the interview, the interview panel clearly identified the difference between their written score and interview performance. As a result, the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) ordered an investigation into the matter.

The investigation alleged that the officials from the commission, with the help of bureaucratic officers from Sindh, helped the individuals to pass the written exam of CSS.

The investigation also confirmed that bureaucratic officers provided illegal benefits to individuals. After that, the case was transferred to the FIA, and some individuals were arrested, and different departments took action against their employees.

However, after several years of litigation, the court ruled that there were serious flaws in the investigation by the FPSC and the FIA. On the basis of these flaws, the concerned employees and both the candidates got relief and were given a clean chit, even though these same candidates were allegedly considered the main protagonists of a major fraud in the CSS examination in the past.
