The Capital City Police Officer (CCPO), Lahore, Bilal Siddique Kamyana, has ordered a zero-tolerance crackdown on illegal moneylenders and loan sharks, directing officers to take effective legal action against those involved in financial usury.
Chairing a meeting to review the performance of the Iqbal Town and Saddar police divisions, Mr Kamyana described usury as a serious social problem that was causing financial and social hardship for citizens.
He directed police officers to respond promptly to complaints from victims and ensure that cases involving illegal lending and exploitation were dealt with effectively. He also said he would personally monitor the crackdown to ensure it produced tangible results.
The CCPO urged victims and other members of the public to report loan sharks without fear, assuring them that they would receive legal assistance and protection.
He also ordered police to ensure comprehensive security arrangements for Pakistan’s Independence Day celebrations on August 14.
Mr Kamyana said one-wheeling, aerial firing and other unlawful activities would not be tolerated, and instructed officers to take strict action against violators.
The meeting also reviewed crime prevention measures, the quality of investigations, the law-and-order situation and the overall performance of the two police divisions.
The CCPO called for stronger measures to protect the lives and property of citizens and said public complaints should receive a prompt, professional and result-oriented response.
Senior police officials, including DIG Investigations Zeeshan Raza, DIG Operations Faisal Kamran, SSP Investigation Muhammad Naveed and SSP Operations Abdullah Ahmad, attended the meeting along with other senior officers from the Iqbal Town and Saddar divisions.
