The Islamabad High Court (IHC), on Wednesday issued notices to the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the district administration regarding a case concerning the lack of clean water in the Kot Hathial area of the federal capital, requesting their response.
Justice Muhammad Asif presided over the petition filed by a citizen.
The lawyer representing the petitioner stated that contaminated and polluted water is being supplied due to the aging pipeline, which is causing the spread of various diseases.
The court has requested a response from both the CDA and the district administration regarding clean water in Islamabad.
It has ordered that the response be submitted by the next hearing and has adjourned the hearing indefinitely.
CDA announces temporary water suspension
In February, CDA declared a temporary halt to the water supply from Khanpur Dam, necessitated by the annual cleaning of the LBC Canal.
This decision intended to ensure the maintenance and optimal functioning of the water distribution system. A formal notification concerning the suspension was issued by the Khanpur Dam Division of CDA.
Residents of both twin cities were further advised to use water wisely during this time.
Authorities warned that the restricted supply could disrupt daily activities and urged both citizens and businesses to implement conservation measures until the normal water flow was restored.
The announcement came after the government, in January, decided to build two new dams in Rawalpindi and Islamabad to meet the growing water needs of the twin cities.
