Cheapest hybrid SUV set to launch in Pakistan

Cheapest hybrid SUV in Pakistan

Omoda and Jaecoo Pakistan, operating under the Nishat Group’s Next Gen Auto, is ready to launch the cheapest Hybrid Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) in the country this week.

The Jaecoo J5 hybrid SUV is the brand’s latest model, and its launch will increase the competition in Pakistan’s SUV market.

Growth in the Local Market

The brand entered Pakistan in August last year with two electric models, the Omoda E5 and the Jaecoo J6.

In October 2025, it introduced the locally manufactured Jaecoo J7, a plug-in hybrid SUV with a price of around Rs10 million. The J7’s launch helped establish the brand among buyers looking for alternative power options.

What the Jaecoo J5 offers

The Jaecoo J5 is a smaller, mini SUV and offers a self-charging hybrid.

Industry sources say it could be the most affordable new hybrid vehicle available in Pakistan. The hybrid system features a combination of a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor and a 1.8kWh battery that recharges during driving.

International trend

In other markets, the J5 is available in electric, petrol, and hybrid versions. Reviews from Australia and South Africa highlight its focus on fuel efficiency and modern styling.

International models offer features such as a large central touchscreen, wireless smartphone connectivity, and advanced safety systems.

Why a Hybrid Makes Sense

The decision to launch the hybrid version reflects local market needs. Limited charging infrastructure and range concerns have slowed electric vehicle adoption in Pakistan.

Hybrids offer improved fuel economy without requiring charging stations, making them a practical option for many drivers.

Price Announcement Awaited

The company is expected to announce the pricing soon. Market watchers will be looking closely at the price, as it may influence the Pakistani buyers quickly to buy the new Jaecoo J5.
